These are the values that underpin our thoughts and actions and that stand in opposition to privilege, inequality and selfish individualism. They are the values that give meaning to the project we advocate, the values that identify us as a distinct agent with a distinct profile in collective life. These values are moreover wholly relevant today, allowing us to formulate, communicate and implement our political actions with a view to meeting people's needs.

Our socialism is an ideal of collective values that aims to achieve and ensure both individual fulfilment and the collective welfare of society as a whole. We see a society where scientific and technological progress and economic development are valuable tools for social, cultural and individual development, a society where no one needs to feel discriminated against or marginalised for reasons of his or her social or ethnic origin, sex, physical or mental condition, sexual orientation, religion or political beliefs.

We are currently standing at a crossroads in history, a moment offering hitherto unimaginable opportunities to resolve old problems, even as we witness the emergence of new questions, new challenges and new inequalities. The time is thus ripe to update democratic socialism, to give new meaning to our values.

First, liberty: We advocate a concept of liberty tied to civic responsibility and a commitment to society, liberty that is inseparable from the commitment to democracy, and a democracy based on the use of practical and effective collective tools for enacting social and political changes.

Second, justice and equality: We propose not only ensuring equal opportunities, but creating a society of opportunities for all by means of active equality policies. Justice is the end of all forms of discrimination against individuals and the achievement of equal rights and opportunities.

Finally, solidarity: We seek to give meaning to the concept of society as a re-distributor of wealth and opportunities in all spheres and at all levels of the public administration. To this end, we propose strengthening these institutions and making them more flexible so as to increase their capacity to adapt to new social needs.
